The Blue I'm Looking For

Secretly,
I chase the dream.
With faint steps, like those
of a passing ghost, I hold
a transient hope
as delicate as the harebell,
who bends her head,
blue-petalled as a madonna's veil
beneath a sky cloud-scattered
with summer rain.

Before me,
sea runs flat to azure sky,
wave-broken as easily as blue glass
by falling night.
Perfumed by blades of blue grass
she changes all -
to shades of
cobalt
violet
indigo:
a Monet palette
of painted pleasure
beneath a blue moon.

Tomorrow,
I shall play the record you gave me -
Bobby Vinton's Blue Velvet,
taste blue tears
on a blue Monday -
secretly.

What is the colour you are looking for?

Is it a plain, straightforward colour or is it a mixture of tints and tones?

Take a look at a colour chart. (There's one at http://www.soton.ac.uk/~dja/colour.html)

There are lots of variations on 'red' for example. There's vermilion, scarlet, crimson, cadmium red, geranium, maroon, ruby, rose pink, magenta and so on.

Write a poem exploring different colours.
